Client – At Home Estate Agents

The problem
With no in-house HR support, the owner of At Home Estate Agents engaged us to ensure that the company complied with its legal obligations in relation to employing staff and that the company’s desire to be a great place to work was reflected in an Employee Handbook Horsham. There was a contract of employment in place but they were looking to recruit a new employee so felt it was the right time to review their contracts and get an Employee Handbook written.

The Solution
We discussed company specific provisions, for example, annual leave entitlement, and how they should be presented to ensure the procedures would be workable now and with a larger workforce as the company grew.

Once agreed, a review and rewrite of the current terms and conditions was completed to create a bespoke contract of employment which included a robust menu of clauses to cover fixed term and/or part time employees and more senior hires. We included clauses to protect the company and give maximum flexibility, and restrictions on employees during and post-employment for example Company bonus scheme and Company car rules – areas which are important yet often missed.

Finally, we crafted an Employee Handbook which contained all the required and recommended policies and procedures including;

  • Equal Opportunities & Diversity
  • Sickness absence rules
  • Grievance policy
  • Disciplinary policy
  • Family friendly – i.e. Maternity/Paternity/Shared Parental/flexible working
  • Capability (sickness and performance)
  • Standards of behaviour
